Cybersecurity Education: Turning Witchcraft and Wizardry into Information Security presented at saintcon 2016

by Mathew Toth,

Summary : We are fighting an asymmetric battle, versus unknown adversaries, who deploy seemingly limitless resources to launch increasingly sophisticated attack campaigns at our corporations, governments and citizens. In sharp contrast to this, information security experts are a rare commodity. With over 300,000 job openings for information security professionals worldwide, and an estimated 1,000,000 openings by 2020, we are needing to reassess how we train our next generation of security professionals to keep pace with demand, and the skills they will need to succeed.
In this talk we will discuss why information security education matters, why we need to de-mystify Cyber, what is working and what is failing in our current environment, how the ever changing technology landscape makes it more challenging, and what we can do to help shape the future.
