Summary : "
This presentation will describe and demonstrate the automated virus
scanning system used in Product Release Services at Microsoft. The
system began as a simple Visual Basic shell that launched batch files.
Today the system includes a Visual Basic front end that interfaces
with IIS and SQL systems. The first system required operators at the
scanning PC to provide information such as a part number and a path
for scanning.
Today remote users can script jobs to be submitted for automatic
scanning. Results of the scan are delivered via an email which also
contains a link to the user's log file. Additional discussion will
describe problems encountered along the way and the solutions devised
to make the system work. Some of the problems were resolved by our
developers. Some of the problems required changes to anti-virus
products."
