SWIFT: Students With an Interest in the Future of Technology presented at BSideSLA 2013

Summary : The subject matter of this talk will cover the activities and culture in a student club at a California State University (Cal Poly Pomona). The club has a heavy emphasis on encouraging hands-on interaction with a range of technologies that include, but are not limited to, the Linux distributions, telecommunications, computer and network security, physical security, open-source software, hardware hacking, and more. The organization is celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year and is growing at an exciting rate. The talk will cover how the club encourages the values of security, open-source software, and how other student organizations can get people excited and involved. Additionally, the talk will cover the camaraderie and tactics of an 8-person Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition team that has reached the national level for the past five consecutive years.
