Honeypots, what are they and why should I care? presented at BSidesLondon 2010

by Andrew Waite,

Summary : The use of honeypot systems and methodologies within information security go back a long way, but they are also one of the least well understood tools in a defenders toolkit. This talk attempts to provide a solid understanding of what a honeypot is and how honeypots can be beneficial when used in real world scenarios.
To do this the talk will cover some of the recent development in honeypot systems, including recent developments within Dionaea with the Ore interface and Kippo. Through this we'll highlight some of the results and findings found from in the wild deployments of honeypot systems, and hopefully convince everyone in the audience to head home and start setting up some sensors.
