Keynote: Politically motivated Denial of Service attacks presented at HackLu 2009

by Jose Nazario,

Summary : The rapid growth of the Internet has been mirrored by a growing number of packet flooding attacks around the world coupled to political motivations. Estonia, Georgia, CNN, the Ukraine, and many other targets have been seen in this sphere in the past few years, and have been going on for nearly a decade. This talk explores the world of DDoS attacks and their growing role as an online political weapon. It also covers how Arbor Networks measured the Estonia and Georgia attacks, how other attacks are measured, and what these attacks mean for the Internet at large.
