Summary : In this paper we present AVATAR, a framework that enables complex dynamic analysis of embedded devices, orchestrating firmware emulation together with real hardware. We demonstrate its utility by performing symbolic execution and vulnerability analysis of several devices, including a hard-disk controller, a GSM feature phone and a wireless sensor node.
