by Bruno Gencarelli, Joshua Meltzer, Jim Sullivan,

Summary : The growth of the global digital economy holds incredible promise for businesses and consumers, but it also presents new challenges for privacy. In response, governments have developed a variety of domestic privacy policies—some aligned with global norms and others not so much—which present new challenges to cross-border data flows. Further, ongoing negotiations of bilateral and multilateral trade agreements offer opportunities to develop a framework that can ensure data flows freely across different privacy regulatory regimes. To uphold the benefits of the global digital economy, it is important to find a balance that supports data flows, meets consumer privacy expectations, and enables innovators to access new markets. This Conversations in Privacy session will discuss privacy policies and regulations that will impact international data flows, outline current mechanisms for promoting data sharing across borders that protect privacy, and provide insights into the ongoing policy debate regarding cross-border data flows and privacy. What you’ll take away:Understanding of privacy policies and regulations that impact international data flowsEducation on current mechanisms for promoting data sharing across borders that protect privacyInsights into the ongoing policy debate regarding cross-border data flows and privacy
