Summary : The CARIN Alliance includes health systems, hospitals, physicians, health technology vendors, consumers and caregivers, all committed to enabling consumers and their authorized caregivers to get easy, digital access to their personal health information. Privacy laws require sharing with individuals and their designees but organizations holding health data have voiced privacy and security concerns. The panel will discuss the CARIN Alliance Trust Framework and Code of Conduct, which were developed to: (1) establish privacy and security best practices for sharing of digital health data, (2) facilitate and encourage the rapid adoption of new mechanisms by which consumers and their authorized caregivers can access, use and share their digital health information, and (3) provide organizations guidance and give consumers confidence about sharing data through these mechanisms.
